Intern
Location: New York, NY / Hybrid
Terms: Full-Time Intern
Pay Range: $28-$38 per hour, depending on experience
Benefits: Not Eligible
Dates: June 10 – August 14 (10 weeks), with part-time option before and part-time option in the fall
Logistics
- Timing. We are seeking an intern to join us for the summer, with the option to begin working part-time as soon as late March.
- Location. For the summer, we’d like the intern to work on a hybrid schedule in New York, working from our office three or four days each week. The position would be remote during the academic year.
Job Overview. The intern will support three core areas of our business:
- Client Intake & Lead Vetting. Speaking directly with prospective clients to assess whether they may qualify as plaintiffs in active or developing matters.
- Research & Case Development. Conducting factual and industry research to support attorneys in evaluating and building cases.
- Case Work and Case Management. With close attorney supervision, supporting and managing our existing case load.
This is not a passive internship. We will integrate you into our work quickly and depend on your output. You will work under attorney supervision and collaborate closely with our legal and operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Be the first point of contact with certain prospective clients. Communicate by phone, text, and email to meet the lead, gather facts, and introduce them to our firm and the potential legal process in front of them.
- Maintain detailed and organized client and case files.
- Make first drafts of various client documents.
- Conduct factual and industry research to support case evaluation and development.
- Draft internal memoranda summarizing research findings.
Qualifications and Qualities.
- Education. Member of the class of 2027 at a four-year college or university. Strong academic record.
- Communication Skills. Must have clear and professional verbal communication skills, as you’ll represent the firm to current and prospective clients. Must also be a capable and fluent writer.
- Executive Function. Though we’ll give you directives, you will largely manage your own schedule. We’ll be comfortable hiring you only if you can show us prior successes in similar situations.
- Digital Fluency. Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate competence with a computer, generally. This is not a technical role, but you’ll need to be a skilled learner and user of various systems and tools.
- Ownership. We prize people who own their work and projects. We don’t micro-manage. The best candidates will be highly motivated and excel in working in an individual contributor role.
- Interest in Our Work. The best candidates’ materials will show us clearly why advocating for consumers appeals to them. We don’t expect you to have picked a career path, but you must make us believe that you will be enthused with our work.
