Websites often invite third parties to surveil you. Advertising and analytics companies record what you click, what you type into a form, what you put in a cart, and what you read. Third parties connect your detailed behavioral histories to profiles of sensitive personal information, and then sell these profiles to the highest bidder.

This spying is illegal. Federal and state privacy laws, including wiretapping statutes written decades before this technology existed, often prohibit exactly this kind of interception, and many provide for statutory damages (i.e., financial penalties) against violators. A company that quietly recorded millions of sessions may owe every one of those people, whether or not any single person can trace a specific injury.

Illegal or lazy data collection and storage also puts consumers at significant risk. Where companies hold onto your private information and inadequately protect it, your data and identity are out of your control, and could be lost to the dark web.

We seek compensation for the people whose information was taken or lost, and we seek to protect consumers’ interests in general.
